Member Newsletter / Information on Next Season…

Dear Tennis Member,

We hope are enjoying a great season of indoor tennis. It’s not quite over yet but it is time to plan our closing events and present the details on our early sign up offer!

The final day of indoor play is Sunday April 29th

After our indoor season, members will be able to carry over any excess bookings and use them outdoors at Joshua Creek! The bubble will be down and the courts will be ready for outdoor play by the week of May 14th at the latest. You will have continued access to our on-line system to make bookings but as of September 1st all member accounts are cleared and you must re-join for the following season.

Our ‘early sign up deal’ is on now for the 2012/ 2013 indoor season! This provides you with an opportunity to hold your spot for next year and get a few ‘bonus bookings’ added to your total. You will also have your name entered into a draw to win your membership! The club is currently at full capacity and we do fill up each season so it is very important to reserve your spot now in order to guarantee a placement for next September.

Click here for a registration form for the 2012/13 indoor season

We would also love to see you stick around at Joshua Creek this summer! As mentioned you can use any leftover bookings from the indoor season or you can add more for only $5/ booking. This is half the drop in rate charged to ‘non-indoor season members’! You will continue to have the convenience of booking ahead verses the usual summer club system of ‘drop in and hope for a court’.

Our outdoor activities has really expanded over the last few seasons… We have an exciting summer camp for kids, tennis lessons for all ages and levels and our exciting new fitness program which includes adult ‘fit-camps’, tennis specific fitness classes and more. (please consult this web site all the details)

Please continue reading for more details on the our closing events for the current season, information on the outdoor programs at JC and some news on next season.

On behalf of all of us at the club, thank you for choosing Joshua Creek and enjoy the rest of the season!

Owner/ Club Manager

Season in Review

On the whole we felt it was a very good season. The membership was at full capacity and the programs were well attended. As each season passes we hope to gain feedback from our members and use it to improve going forward. Please feel free to send your comments (positive or negative) to info@joshuacreek.ca and they will definitely be taken into consideration.

Program Review

Monday House League

If you participated in the house league this season you are aware that we tried out a major change in terms of sign up. We were having a lot of trouble with certain players not sticking to the schedule or cancelling late which left us with a very tough situation in terms of rounding up last minute substitutes. This had been a problem for a number of season’s so we thought we would try having the participants book in week to week instead. There were pros and cons to the new system, it worked very well for some divisions but it did cause a decrease in interest for others. It definitely helped out with the last minute cancellation and no-show issues because players were booking closer to the date of play and only booking for the nights that interested them. In some divisions in resulted in the same group of players playing each week which became less interesting. We have some ideas for fine tuning this new system for next year but we would also like your feedback before making any decisions. Please send in an email to info@joshuacreek.ca if you have any comments.

Evening Round Robins

The Friday and Sunday evening round robins were really well attended again this season. So well attended in fact that we did end up setting up two rounds on a Friday rather than one. We realize this decreased the play time by 15 minutes but it did result in 8 more players being able to participate each week. We would also like to propose the idea of carrying on the Friday Round Robin outdoors! We have the court time and staff available so if we get a sense that there is sufficient interest we would make arrangements to run it. (The cost would be adjusted based on outdoor play)

Windoor Team Play

Thank you to all the ‘windoor participants” who battled it out on behalf of Joshua Creek each week. Our teams were competitive and represented well. If you have any general feedback regarding the league please pass the information along to your captains who can bring it up at the captains meetings coming up shortly. If you have any concerns that relate specifically to the team you played on this season or thoughts that might be useful for next season, please detail them in an email and send it to cyoung@joshuacreek.ca . Your feedback will be kept confidential and will be considered when planning for next season. We will then have meeting/ tryout sessions as usual in September to assess the numbers and interest and at that point put the final plans together for the next season.

Summer Programs

Summer Tennis (Options for Play)

Joshua Creek offers an exciting option to book ahead to guarantee a time rather than the typical summer arrangement of having to arrive at a Club and then compete for available courts. The courts will be available starting the week of May 14th and are open until the end of August.

As was mentioned at the start of this letter, if you have any excess bookings from the indoor season you are welcome to use them during the summer once the bubble comes down. You can also use the courts throughout the summer on a pay as you go basis. Bookings are $5/ person if you are a winter member and $10/ person if you are not.

(The primary use of court time in the summer switches to junior Camps and Academy programs but we do have ample court time that don’t conflict with the programs. Through May and the first half of June court time is quite open. From that point forward the courts are only available during early morning times (before 9:00 am) and after 6:30 pm. There is also a lot of court time available on Saturday afternoons and all day Sunday.)

Multi-Sport Summer Camp

Our Multi-Sport Summer Camp Program at Joshua Creek has evolved from a simple Tennis Camp but has become so much more…! Tennis is the main focus of our camps and the level of tennis instruction is far superior to what you might expect from a “Parks and Rec” or other “Community level” programming. Our staff of certified teaching professionals have created an ideal program for children at the beginner to intermediate levels

Tennis Academy

Joshua Creek offers a top quality junior tennis academy for complete beginners to elite level players! The academy is comprised of the “Super Stars” division for beginner to intermediate levels and the “High Performance” program for our Advanced and Elite level juniors. We also have group and private lesson options for adults.

Joshua Creek Fitness

We are very excited about our new fitness program at Joshua Creek!

The program includes a variety of classes that are suitable for all levels of fitness. Classes have been designed to meet the specific fitness needs and scheduling requirements of our tennis members and parents of our summer camp and tennis academy children but it is also open to the general public. Our fitness division is headed up by Tracy Richards who has an experienced background in the fitness industry and a high energy approach to keep you motivated!

Join us for Boot Camp Fitness, TRX Training, Yoga and Cardio Tennis. One of the program highlights is our unique Fit Camp program that includes Boot Camp Fitness, TRX and Yoga all in one week. This provides an exciting option for parents who have enrolled their children in the Multi-Sport Summer Camp to drop off the kids and stay for an hour of fitness each morning!

Classes are run at various locations at out facility. TRX is run inside the bubble during the indoor season and outdoors on the tennis courts or at our newly designed TRX station which will be set up on the smaller playing field next to the tennis courts. Boot Camp Fitness, Fit Camp and Yoga are run in a beautiful secluded area beyond the driving range. You will feel like you are in the middle of nature!

Other Business

Special Announcement

A lot of members will be excited to know that Amr and Sawsan are returning to Canada! It remains to be seen how involved they will be in the operation or club, but you will definitely see them around Joshua Creek by next fall.

As excited as we are to have them back, we do feel bad for the circumstances they were presented with in Egypt and how their opportunities were impacted. I think they would have been back regardless though because they missed us all so much!

Thank You’s

• Thanks to all the teaching and administrative Staff at the Club who worked hard to keep things running as smoothly as possible. It is this highly valued team and it is their sincere interest that really makes the difference.

• Thanks to Holly for her efforts with the Ladies House League. It was very well organized again this season.

• Thanks to Mike for organizing his afternoon group again this season. “Go Creakers!”

• Thanks to this year’s Windoor and Business League Captains – your help is always appreciated!

The Future at JC

I am often asked about the future plans for Joshua Creek and I even hear rumors that are quite untrue related to the future of the club! Here are the facts on the matter…

Firstly, Joshua Creek has been a big success and although there have been some definite growing pains at points over the years it has become something that all who are involved are very proud of. All efforts will be made to continue the club well into the future.

The club has another five years left on our current lease arrangement but we are have had discussions with the land owners and hope to extend the lease well beyond the current term. A guarantee of a longer term would provide the security for us to invest, improve and possibly expand the facility. At the same time we realize that our success is due in part to the niche we have found in the market and the pricing that we are able to offer.

The bottom line is that we have a bright future ahead and look forward to serving your needs for the years to come!
